The results of the renovations to the buildings make for very interesting results. Stop by Macedonia square and take in the sights of the 72 feet high monument of Alexander the Great. From here you can walk across the Art Bridge and take in the 29 statues of famous Macedonian artists and musicians. Once you are on the other side of the river you can take a gander through the newly constructed greek architecture and even go into the newly constructed National Theater, after it was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1963.

Kale Fortress

The kale fortress overlooks the Vardar river and sits at the highest point of Macedonia. The site is an archeological goldmine. During its excavation in the 2000s, the site revealed some interesting findings. From wood string instruments, subterranean dwellings, clay decorations dating back from 3000 BC, and the largest collection of Byzantine coins ever found in Macedonia. The fortress is believed to date back to the 10th and 11th centuries. What is an added bonus is this site is located within walking distance of the city center!
