The idea for our technology-driven business came when our founder Barry (an already experienced travel operator) was with his girlfriend in Southeast Asia.
He had to take precious time off his holiday to organise and plan his own cultural experiences. The only tours available (within his budget) were from larger, impersonal operators offering tours involving over 50 people.
They also had to stay in a non-central hotel, that then needed gas-guzzling coaches to transport them (and the 50 strangers he had left the UK to get away from!) around on excursions.
Technology played a non-existent role in the overall experience and the environmental footprint was not helped by the large diesel vehicles ferrying everyone around.
He noticed that the local guides had better knowledge and were more personal in both their tour numbers and approach to the experience. Technology advances have made booking directly with them possible, which helps the local economy.
By also working with niche hotel partners, he saw that we could also negate the need for a coach and a holiday with strangers, by getting a city centre hotel, that can suit any budget.
