11 Things to do in Gozo

Famous for the fresh fish, the beautiful beaches, and some truly magnificent architecture, it can be hard to figure out what to do during your stay in Gozo. That’s why we’re here to lend a hand with our helpful list of things to do on your visit to Gozo.

Victoria

While not having quite as much to do as Malta’s capital of Valletta there is still plenty to be going on within Victoria.

Independence square is well worth a visit with events ranging from brass bands to dance groups to opera. Alternatively, you could check out one of the city’s many cafes to enjoy a nice, relaxing coffee and a pastry, we recommend Cafe Jubilee in particular.

Ancient Citadella

While in Victoria you should definitely set aside some time to visit the Ancient Citadella.

Built in the early 1600s and maintained for hundreds of years since the Citadella is home to multiple churches and museums making it easy to spend half a day exploring the site.

The Ancient Citadella predominantly features the Gozo Museum of Archaeology, a museum built on themes of religion, food, and art with exhibits from various archaeological sites around the island.

Dwejra Bay and the Azure Window

Unfortunately destroyed by natural winds and waves in 2017 the Azure Window’s ruins remain worth a visit for anyone heading to Dwejra Bay.

Still one of the most picturesque spots on the island, Dwejra bay is also right next to the Blue Hole, a prime diving spot in Gozo. While visiting you could also take a boat tour out onto the water where you can see the beautiful cliffs from a completely different perspective

Ta Pinu Basilica

Ta Pinu Basilica Gozo (1)

A pilgrimage point for many Christians each year, The Basilica is one of the most stunningly beautiful buildings in all of Gozo.

Surrounded by little more than some small homes and fields The Basilica stands out among the gorgeous countryside of Gozo demanding your attention. Even if you don’t consider yourself a religious person it is well worth the visit just to admire the stunning architecture.

Marsalforn Salt Pans

Marsalforn Salt Pans Gozo (1)

At 3 kilometres long and 350 years old the Marsalforn Salt Pans are one of the more unique sights to see while visiting Gozo.

If you ever wondered how salt is farmed look no further, the salt pans have been tended by the local families for centuries and depending on when you visit you may be able to see them gathering the salt ready to be processed and sold. The real draw however is to visit in the evening to see the crystals reflect all sorts of colours and light to make a truly spectacular scene

Marsalforn Bay

Not far from the aforementioned salt p0ans you will find Marsalforn Bay. Due to the local restaurants and hotels, this may be the place you should stay during your visit.

While the whole island is renowned for its fresh fish dishes Marsalforn Bay is a standout even amongst the rest of the island. Though there are plenty of small bays and coasts along Gozo’s coastline Marsalforn is one of the nicest with the most to do for visiting tourists.

Tal Mixta Cave

If you are the kind of person that is a fan of taking in picturesque landscapes and admiring the natural beauty of the world then you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better spot than Tal Mixta Cave.

Though lacking in obvious attractions or things to do, in terms of places to visit just for the sights and experience, Tal Mixta Cave is second to none.

Ramla Bay Beach

Though Gozo has plenty of beaches that are worth mentioning, the golden orange sands of Ramla Bay are where we recommend them.

One of the calmer bays of the island Ramla Bay is the ideal beach if you want to relax by the beautiful blue waters and golden sands of a beach without worrying about large waves and huge crowds.

Ggantija Temples

Ggantija Temples Gozo (1)

One of the only attractions across Gozo that you have to pay to see is the Ggantija Temples though it is clear to see why.

Dating back thousands of years the ruins of the temples are one of the best-preserved Unesco World Heritage Sites in the world, a fact that is even more shocking when you realize the temple was built more than 5,500 years ago.

Bundled with the price of entry are tickets to the Ta’ Kola Windmill which in modern-day is a museum but was built sometime in the 1700s.

Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon Gozo (1)

Located on the Maltese island of Comino the Blue Lagoon is one of the most picturesque places you could choose to visit not just in Malta but in the entirety of Europe.

Whether visiting in order to get some Instagram-worthy pictures, going for a dip in the shimmering crystal clear waters, or just simply going to take in the stunning scenery the Blue Lagoon will not leave you disappointed.

This not-so-hidden gem is not a place you want to miss while in the country.

Tal-Massar Winery

Tal-Massar Winery Gozo (1)

What better way to cap off your visit than visiting a local Winery for our money Tal-Massar is the go-to.

Located in the northwest of the island Tal-Massar Winery is open to visitors with a tour by the owner which of course features some tastings and some delicious edible pairings recommended by the owner.

A visit to Tal-Massar Winery is the perfect way to finish your visit to the beautiful island of Gozo
