Alcatraz Island
Located in the San Francisco bay, this island is the location of the famous Alcatraz prison. Once a fortress of maximum security, this penitentiary is shrouded in history. When you visit the prison there are many exhibits to encounter. One exhibit to note is “The big Lockup”. Here you can gain valuable insight into the prison inmates, and the correlation between people of color, and people living in poverty being incarcerated. The numbers were distinctly higher in these groups and the exhibit begs the question “is there a better way?”.
Alcatraz is a must-see. It may not be the most cheerful of excursions but it is as equally educational and eye-opening.
General Sherman
General Sherman is the name given to the Giant Sequoia found in the Sequoia National park. This tree is one of the largest trees in the world. The national park is one to five out of ten of the largest trees worldwide. General Sherman is also one of the oldest trees with an age estimate of well over 2,500 years. Death Valley
The name at first glance isn’t all that appealing but funnily enough, Death Valley is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The valley is one of the hottest and driest places in all of North America. This is the largest national park south of Alaska, it also sits 282 feet below sea level. The famous furnace creek once recorded temperatures as high as 134 degrees Fahrenheit which is apparently some of the hottest air temperatures ever recorded. Visitors are strongly advised to visit this fascinating place in the early hours of the morning.
You will also encounter the famous Dantes Viewpoint and overlook Death Valley at1,669 meters.
Lake Tahoe
This lake can be found directly on the border between California and Nevada. It is an epic place to visit all year round, both summer and winter. The lake is a fantastic place to swim, kayak, jet ski, and hang with friends and family during the summer and is incredible for skiing and exploring via snowmobile driving, in the winter months. There’s something for everyone and every season here. The lake was created during an ice age approximately 2 million years ago and is currently one of the largest lakes on the planet.
Disneyland Resort California

Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is a must-see for every traveler. The bridge is a tick every visitor wants on their list. Is it one of the most recognized and famous attractions in all of San Francisco and is visited by thousands of people every year? The famous red color was chosen in order to make the bridge more visible in foggy conditions. Come and see this stunning landmark and snap a picture or two. Venice Beach
Arguably one of the most famous beaches in California, Venice beach is known for its bohemian spirit. With a plethora of shops and restaurants. Redwood National Park
Take a trip into the stunning outdoors and visit Redwood National Park. The park is an oasis of wildlife, trees, plants, and nature. The forest has some of the oldest and largest trees in all of the United States. Take one of the various hiking routes, or just have a relaxing walk. Take in and reconnect with nature or drive through the 8-mile scenic route, known as the Coastal Drive.
Hollywood Walk of Fame
t wouldn’t be a trip to California without a trip to Hollywood in Los Angeles. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of the most famous walks in the world. With millions of visitors a year, this is not worth missing! Walk where the stars of Hollywood have and see if you can spot your favorites. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a great day out. Shops and restaurants are all around so stop for a bite to eat once you’re done star spotting.
San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is home to 12,000 animals. There are more than 650 different species to find here. The zoo is part of Balboa Park and offers so much to see and do here. There are many major exhibits here to explore. Exhibits include Rainforests, Panda Canyon, Elephant Odyssey, and Gorilla tropics. This is a fun day out for all the family. Regardless if you’re with family, friends, or embarking on a solo trip. The zoo offers so much to see and do and you will even learn a thing or two whilst you’re visiting.
Griffith Observatory
The Griffith Observatory covers a vast 4,310 acres and is one of the largest city parks in North America. You will see spectacular views of Los Angeles from here. As well as the views you may recognize the Griffith Observatory from movies such as La La Land. The observatory has been a backdrop for many Hollywood movies. Take a trip here and walk where the stars of the big screen have walked and take in the stunning views overlooking the city.
